Classify Yourself

Here is an explanation and outline of the skier classification chart. Whether you have your own equipment, or you rent, this chart is used along with other information (height, weight, boot sole length) to determine the DIN setting on your bindings. This setting determines when your bindings release in the expectation of a fall. It is important that the information you provide is honest and correct.

The Skier Classsification Chart

"Cautious Skiing
at Lighter
Release/Retention Settings"
"Moderate Skiing
at Average
Release/Retention.Settings"
"Aggressive Skiing
at Higher
Release/Retention Settings"
- ski conservatively - ski moderately - ski aggressively
- prefer lower speeds - prefer a variety of speeds - normally ski at high speeds
- prefer easy, moderate slopes - ski on varied terrain, including most difficult trails - prefer steeper and more challenging terrain
- favor lower than average release/retention settings - are all skiers who do not meet all the descriptions of either Type I or Type II - favor higher than average release/retention settings

This corresponds to an increased risk of inadvertent binding release in order to gain increased releaseability in a fall.
TYPE I settings apply to "entry-level skiers uncertain of their classification.

This corresponds to an decreased releaseability in a fall in order to gain a decreased risk of inadvertent binding release.
